President Off Duty
The President’s hometown is the agro-town of Alexandria. He spent his childhood years there. Tourists like to visit the school the future President went to and to take a seat at his desk for good luck. Not far from Alexandria there is Trofimov’s Spring, a sacred spring arranged by Aleksandr Lukashenko's grandfather. Every year Aleksandr Lukashenko comes to attend the festival “Alexandria Gathers Friends”.

Since childhood, Aleksandr Lukashenko is used to working the land. Farming has remained his hobby during the presidency. For the President gardening is a relaxing escape from the pressures of a busy schedule. Today Aleksandr Lukashenko runs a large vegetable garden. The impressive harvest, which is gathered every year, is traditionally sent to children's and nursing homes.

The President’s schedule features many informal events. Every year Aleksandr Lukashenko takes part in a nationwide Subbotnik, a day of voluntary unpaid work. He often meets with the youth. The national ball of graduates, the President’s New Year party for children and the nationwide New Year's ball in the Palace of Independence are among the most beautiful traditions of sovereign Belarus.
