Public Associations

As of 1 January 2024, 1,973 public associations and 19 trade unions were registered in the Republic of Belarus.

In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Belarus of 14 February 2023 “On the foundations of the civil society”, the Justice Ministry considers the following organizations as having the right to interact with public authorities (organizations) in special forms. These are the Republican Public association Belaya Rus, the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans, the Belarusian Republican Youth Union, the Belarusian Union of Women, and Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus.

The special forms of interaction of public authorities (organizations) and subjects of the civil society are:

  • election of the delegates of the Belarusian People’s Congress in the order specified by the law;
  • meetings with the population, labor teams, direct phone lines, dialogue platforms, public receptions, office meetings with people aimed at collecting and analyzing proposals before their submission to the Belarusian People’s Congress for consideration;
  • participation in the implementation of decisions of the Belarusian People’s Congress.

The Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus is a nationwide, independent and voluntary association of industry-wise trade unions with about 4 million members.

The Belaya Rus public association has more than 225,000 members, over 8,600 grass-routes organizations and offices in all the administrative districts of the country.

The youth movement is actively developed in Belarus. The main organizations are the BRSM Youth Union and the Belarusian National Pioneer Organization.

The BRSM Youth Union unites over 360,000 young people. More than 620,000 children make part of the Belarusian National Pioneer Organization.

Veteran and environmental organizations take an active part in the public life of the country.

There are about 350 charity organizations and 85 diaspora organizations in Belarus.
