National and Public Holidays and Commemorative Dates

National holidays, public holidays, commemorative dates and other observances are established by the President of the Republic of Belarus.

A national holiday celebrates the occasion of special historical, social or political importance for the Republic of Belarus, which has had a significant impact on the development of the Belarusian society and the state.

Public holidays mark other events. They are dedicated to traditional dates or celebrate representatives of a particular profession, industry or field of activity.

Commemorative dates are associated with other historical events in the life of the state and society, or are traditionally observed by certain categories of citizens.

Observances mark the events that have no official status of a national holiday, public holiday or a commemorative date in the Republic of Belarus and that are traditionally observed by a significant number of citizens.
