Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Zhang Qingwei, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Chairman of the High-Level Committee on Cooperation between the Legislative Bodies of Belarus and China on 13 June.
“Friday was supposed to be a military day for me. But I have rescheduled my visit to training grounds to the end of the day in order to be able to meet with our old, good friends. It was only natural in view of the recent visit of the Belarusian delegation, my visit to the People's Republic of China, which our ambassador described as successful, and the meeting with my old friend Xi Jinping,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
“You know very well that our diplomatic and political relations, genuine friendship between our peoples stand on a solid economic foundation,” the Belarusian leader said.
He remarked that Belarus and China are running many joint projects on the territory of Belarus. “We are ready to take it further,” Aleksandr Lukashenko assured.
According to him, in today's world, people's diplomacy plays a major role in bilateral cooperation, and inter-parliamentary interaction is the basis for people's diplomacy. “Our parliamentarians play such a role also because they are at the forefront. They have firsthand knowledge of people's problems. And people are at the heart of the states we are building. Therefore, it is very important for us to be aware of people's sentiments and act in their interests,” the head of state emphasized.
“We are very grateful to the Chinese authorities and the leadership of the National People's Congress, the leaders of the parliament for their enormous support in the international arena. And you know very well that we always return the favor and we support the People's Republic of China on all issues in international organizations,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
"During our meeting with President Xi Jinping, we agreed that we will do everything to prevent any storms and blizzards from breaking our unity, so that we will continue to develop and deepen our relations, as has been the case for the past 30 years. You should know that Belarus, located at the heart of Europe, is ready to do everything for the People's Republic of China: everything that serves its interests," the head of state said.
“We will do our utmost to strengthen the friendship between the peoples of Belarus and China,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.
Zhang Qingwei remarked that before the meeting with the president, the Chinese delegation visited Victory Square in Minsk, laid wreaths at the monument, and honored the memory of Belarusian heroes who fought in World War II. Taking the opportunity, Zhang Qingwei congratulated the Belarusian leader on the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. "The Belarusian people were the first to face the enemy. They withstood and demonstrated heroism and patriotism, which can only inspire admiration. We highly appreciate the significant contribution of the Belarusian people to the victory in the global fight against fascism," he emphasized. "Steadfastly committed to ensuring peace worldwide, China is ready to stand firmly alongside Belarus in defending [the truth about] the results of World War II, upholding international justice, and building a community of common destiny for mankind," he added.
