Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko attended the Dazhynki harvest festival in the town of Klimovichi, Mogilev Oblast, on 16 November.
"Throughout the country and especially here there are idle household plots, farm yard plots, especially former farms. There is no farm, just one tower standing. There are no villages or settlements around, there is nothing but 20 hectares of unplowed land. This is wrong. Therefore, we need to deal with this somehow," the Belarusian leader stressed.
First of all, Aleksandr Lukashenko addressed this task to the chairman of the standing commission of the Council of the Republic and the authorized representative of the head of state in Mogilev Oblast Leonid Zayats. "You probably need to take this problem under control. If you need something, please do not hesitate to say. The governors also need to step up, especially the chairmen of the district executive committees. They bear responsibility for these lands. It is important to put these lands in use. They know how to do it," the President instructed.
He stressed that there are such lands not only near the so-called unpromising villages but also in agro-towns.
This is due to the fact that most people no longer need large plots of land for agricultural needs. "People do not want to work half a hectare plot, 40 acres. Today it is not necessary. They use 6 to 10 acres near the house. The rest is abandoned," the head of state said.
