Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko hosted a meeting to discuss military security on 16 August.
Attending the event were State Secretary of Belarus’ Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich, Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Pavel Muraveiko and Deputy Chief of the General Staff Vladimir Kupriyanyuk.
The head of state stated that Belarus has been in the center of the planet’s geostrategic interests for a long time. “It is one of the reasons, including for growing tensions along our borders. We have also been observing for a long time that beyond borders of our country all kinds of regiments, as they pompously call them, and entire corps are being formed, especially from among our self-exiled opposition in order to invade Belarus in a certain period of time and seize power, reverse the country’s course. We’ve also seen that and know it. Since we know it, we have always been preparing for counteracting these people. Particularly security agencies and the army did. Primarily the army,” the President noted.
“As the minister, the state secretary, and the KGB chief always tell me, we are ready, completely prepared to counteract any threats that exist against Belarus. As far as I understand, we have everything for repulsing probable nasty tricks against Belarus. I don’t want to say attacks and strikes,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.
One of the topics of the meeting was the situation on the border with Ukraine.
"After the drone incursion, we have strengthened controls on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. We have deployed more troops there. What is the situation on the border now? Have all units arrived in the area of concentration of troops in case of emergency? I received the reports, I have the appropriate map. I ask you to report not only on the situation, but also on the development of the situation and suggest your proposals on what we will do here next," the head of state said.
"The meeting is not about the analysis of some serious problems of the army. We will return to this later. All issues are under control. Everyone knows what to do. We will return to this a little later. Today we will focus on the situation of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. Some time passed. How serious are the things happening on the side of Ukraine? These are the questions," the Belarusian leader said while outlining the range of issues to be discussed at the meeting.
