Belarus updates admission rules for higher, secondary education
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed a decree on Improving the Admissions Campaign designed to guarantee equal opportunities for applicants to higher education and vocational colleges based on fair competition.
The decree establishes a state commission to oversee the preparation and conduct of the admissions campaign, and approves its permanent membership. The commission is empowered to supervise the conduct of university Olympiads, which grant the right to preferential admission to universities that organize such competitions.
The commission, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Natalya Petkevich, includes representatives of the Council of the Republic and the House of Representatives, as well as state administration bodies, regulatory agencies, and public organizations.
The decree also updates specific provisions of the admission rules for individuals seeking higher and specialized secondary education. In particular, enrollment in distance learning programs at universities will no longer require that an applicant’s work experience correspond to their chosen field of study.
The decree clarifies the categories of individuals eligible for enrollment privileges in educational institutions due to the establishment of a college under the Internal Affairs Ministry.
A new subject-specific test on History of Belarus in the Context of World History will be introduced, replacing the former History of Belarus exam, reflecting the curriculum change for 10th and 11th graders.
