Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko hosted a government conference held on 10 September to discuss topical domestic policy matters and preparations for political campaigns.
Heads of the chambers of the parliament, the head of the Belarus President Administration, the state secretary of the Security Council, heads of the Central Election Commission (CEC) and the State Security Committee (KGB) took part in the meeting.
“Autumn is the time to take stock of the progress, to build a strategy for the next year. Our most important task is to finish this year and start the next year the best we can. The results of the presidential election will largely depend on our work,” the head of state said. “The number one priority in the work of the authorities at all the levels, be it regional or local authorities and the government, is to represent people.”
The President emphasized the approaches the officials need to follow in their work: “We should listen to people, talk to them and respond properly to the issues they raise.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko asked the participants of the meeting what issues were the most acute at the current moment and how effective the work with such appeals was conducted. “It is on this that the authority of each official, local authorities and the government depends,” the head of state said.
The President noted that for obvious reasons everyday life issues are usually of primary importance for any person. “Someone wants to fix the roof, someone wants to put up a fence, someone lacks something at the store, and so on. All the issues need to be studied and sorted (it should always be done). There should be a clear understanding what we, the authorities, should do and what should be done by people,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The head of state highlighted the systematic, well-functioning work at all levels of the government in this regard. “For example, people often judge prices by their wallet, not by statistics, the quality of education - by communication with a particular teacher, the level of medicine - by the clinic they regularly visit, the authorities - by the actions of a particular official they turn to. I am implying that everyone should work as one,” the President emphasized.
