The Investigation Committee was founded not for the sake of performance indicators but for helping people, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the extended meeting of the board of the Investigation Committee on 11 February.
“The number of criminal cases should correspond with the number of crimes. You should not investigate cases just for the sake of performance indicators,” the head of state said.
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the decision to set up the Investigation Committee was a right and grounded one. Investigation became more efficient. “But we did it not for the sake of indicators. It was done for people,” the President emphasized.
“People are the main priority. You should do your best to support honest people,” the head of state believes.
The Investigation Committee should not aim for more criminal cases for the sake of good statistics, Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The President urged investigators to consider all applications in a timely manner, launch criminal cases if there are elements of a crime, investigate these cases, collect evidence, and search for the guilty.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said that the workload on investigators has significantly decreased in recent years. In his opinion, it could help raise the quality of investigation and reduce the time spent on it; as a result, investigators will be able to handle more incident reports. Experienced and resourceful investigation bodies should be engaged in this work, the head of state believes.
“The protection of rights and interests of every person, the society and the state should be the main priority in your work,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
