Report of Chairman of the State Security Committee Valery Vakulchik

President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Chairman of the State Security Committee of Belarus Valery Vakulchik to receive his report on 13 November.

Aleksandr Lukashenko paid attention to the work of the State Security Committee to prevent offences, including corruption.

“Yes, there are rather serious cases. Using your materials it was possible to curtail the activities of certain people in business and government bodies. But when analyzing this process I can see that the efforts are not sufficient,” the head of state said.

He expressed concern over the inefficiency of work in this field. “You have special methods. The Prosecutor’s Office cannot do without you,” the President remarked.

The head of state instructed territorial bodies of the State Security Committee to analyze the social, political, economic situation in the regions and provide comprehensive information.

“I would like to know your position, your opinion. It is impartial and absolutely objective because you can analyze cause and effect relations,” the President said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also asked Valery Vakulchik to provide information about the situation in Grodno Oblast. “I am not only concerned about it. I remember what it was before. The country’s only case of governor assassination took place there. We know the circumstances. I know that certain states pay excessive attention to Grodno Oblast,” the President remarked.
