Belarus President signs Decree on drafting civilians for fixed-period military service in February-May

    Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed Decree No. 55 “On the transfer to the reserve of the fixed-period military servicemen and on drafting civilians for the fixed-period military service and reserve military service” on 18 February.

    In order to maintain the combat readiness of the Armed Forces, other troops and paramilitary units, the document envisages the draft of Belarusian male citizens of at least 18 years of age who do not have a deferment from the draft or military-age males who have lost a deferment from the draft for the fixed-period military service and reserve military service as well as the draft of civilians from students of agricultural universities willing to join the reserve military service for the reserve military service in February-May.

    Besides, in accordance with the document, fixed-period military servicemen whose period of service is over will be transferred to the reserve.
