Belarus pays close attention to the construction of its nuclear power plant, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting with Rosatom Director General Aleksei Likhachev on 24 July.
The president named the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant an important issue from the economic, political and moral point. “The decision to build a nuclear power plant was not an easy one for us after the Chernobyl catastrophe. There were phobias, but we managed to convince people that it is our future, first of all. Secondly, it means the most advanced technologies. I place the construction of the nuclear power plant alongside with space, IT and digital technologies, which are our future. We attach the most serious attention to the construction. I am aware of every detail in the construction process,” the head of state said.
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, not long ago an aide to the president was appointed to supervise the implementation of national projects. “It is of the national level alongside with others that we are currently implementing. There are about ten of them. These are cash-consuming projects, and we are attaching the closest attention to them,” the Belarusian leader said.
According to the head of state, the construction of the nuclear power plant is regularly discussed at the meetings with the President of the Russian Federation. “We discuss the construction of the nuclear power plant and closely monitor both the construction process and price parameters. The Russian president shows great interest in the matter,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
“Today’s meeting is important for the discussion of the issues related to the construction of the nuclear power plant, overcoming any bottlenecks that are a usual thing in such big projects, and also other issues you would like to discuss and hear my opinion,” the head of state added.
