Meeting with President of National Assembly of Serbia Maja Gojkovic

Traditionally friendly relations of Belarus and Serbia will be enhanced, President of Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with President of the National Assembly of Serbia Maja Gojkovic on 9 June.

According to the head of state, the sides need to discuss a number of issues to enhance and expand Belarus-Serbia cooperation. He also emphasized that over the five years the trade between the two countries went up almost five times, and there are good reserves for raising the trade turnover. Aleksandr Lukashenko also mentioned the fact that the trade between the countries is balanced.

As far as the parliamentary dimension is concerned, the MPs of the two countries are doing their best to strengthen bilateral relations.

Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed confidence that the visit of the Serbian official will help enhance bilateral relations and will be a good step towards the visit of the Serbian President to Belarus.

Maja Gojkovic, in turn, said that the parliaments of Belarus and Serbia make a considerable contribution to bilateral cooperation. “For me it is a great honor to receive an invitation from the heads of the two chambers of the parliament to visit Belarus,” she said.

Maja Gojkovic believes that this visit can be named historic as it is the first visit of the head of the Serbian parliament to Belarus.

The Speaker of the Serbian parliament underlined the importance of the Belarus President’s visit to Serbia. In her words, the visit opened a new page in the Belarusian-Serbian relations. “I am glad that the parliaments of the two countries can follow this path and make their contribution to the development of bilateral ties,” said Maja Gojkovic.

She views the relations between Belarus and Serbia as traditionally warm and friendly. She is confident that both the countries have been investing big efforts in the further development of bilateral cooperation.
