Meeting with Chairman of CIS Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev

On 12 October Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev.
Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that he is concerned about the situation in the country. “There were many attempts, but since no one heard about it or saw it, it means that we have finally learned to work calmly and prevent various insinuations and attempts to locally destabilize the situation in Belarus,” the head of state said. “In due time we will tell people about these attempts,” he added.
Speaking about the presidential election campaign, Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that the country has done everything to avid any criticism, especially from western partners and observers. “Yesterday I had to openly say that we have done a lot to demonstrate the elements of democracy to the West. Frankly speaking, they have seen it. They will decide what to do with this information,” the Belarusian leader said.
The President thanked CIS observers for their work and objectivity.
Aleksandr Lukashenko also spoke about the forthcoming CIS heads of state summit which will take place in Kazakhstan on 16 October.
Aleksandr Lukashenko asked Sergei Lebedev if there are any topical issues connected with the preparations for the session. The Belarusian President noted that he talked to his counterparts, including Vladimir Putin and Nursultan Nazarbayev, in the morning. They discussed the details of the forthcoming meetings. He also asked Sergei Lebedev about the preparations for the summit.
Sergei Lebedev congratulated Aleksandr Lukashenko on re-election. According to Sergei Lebedev, the CIS mission believes that the election went in compliance with the Electoral Code and the Constitution of Belarus, that the election was conformant with universally recognized international norms concerning election organization. “The most important conclusion that we have made is that the right of Belarus citizens to free expression of their will has been secured,” stressed Sergei Lebedev.
As for the CIS heads of state summit, its agenda includes 17 issues, in particular, the statements of the CIS heads of state in connection with the 70th anniversary of the UN, the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident, the fight against international terrorism. Apart from that, certain issues are connected with the enhancement of military and border cooperation. In particular, plans have been made to pass a military cooperation concept of the CIS member states till 2020, a program of cooperation of the CIS member states in the strengthening of border security at the external borders for 2016-2020, an agreement on cooperation in the prevention and mitigation of emergencies. The sides will also discuss a number of personnel issues, approve the candidacy for the post of the CIS anti-terrorism center and the head of air defense coordination committee under the auspices the CIS Council of Defense Ministers. Sergei Lebedev also said that Kyrgyzstan is expected to assume chairmanship in the Commonwealth from Kazakhstan.
The meeting also focused on the enhancement of integration cooperation on the CIS.
