Report of Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko received a report from Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin on 22 July.
The head of state was briefed on military training activities within the Armed Forces, the current security situation around the country, and the assistance provided by military personnel to farmers during the harvest campaign.
Personnel training continues on a routine basis, with the analysis and conclusions from the comprehensive inspection conducted earlier this year factored into the process.
Viktor Khrenin reported that the military-political situation remains calm, with tensions mostly present in the information space. No significant activity by NATO armed forces is currently being observed.
The same holds true for the southern borders. There are no signs from the neighboring side of preparations for any aggressive actions. A minimal contingent of special operations forces is deployed in the border zone on Belarusian territory, ensuring security in cooperation with border guards.
Another topic of the report concerned the harvest campaign. The military traditionally provide support to farmers in this regard. The President received a detailed briefing on which regions have military personnel carrying out relevant tasks, as well as how much equipment and how many machine operators have been allocated.
The discussion also touched on the implementation of Aleksandr Lukashenko’s instruction, given during a conference call, for undisciplined and negligent harvest workers to be drafted into the army. The defense minister presented the President with a proposal to involve military commissars in the regions in carrying out this task.
