Aleksandr Lukashenko sends greetings to participants and guests of 2014 IIHF World Championship
President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has sent greetings to participants and guests of the 2014 IIHF World Championship in Minsk.
According to the head of state, it is symbolic that the 78thice hockey championship will open in MinskHeroCity on 9 May when the Republic of Belarus celebrates the anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War.
“The tournament has brought together the strongest teams in the world which will compete in strenuous ice hockey matches until a champion is crowned and dedicated fans who selflessly root for their teams, share the joy of victories and bitterness of defeat with them. We sincerely hope that many fans will like Belarus and make new friends here,” the message of greetings reads.
The President remarked that sport is a form of people’s democracy which opens up vast opportunities for the rapprochement of various countries. Breathtaking ice hockey battles are popular and affordable entertainment for all people who are fond of this team sport. Aleksandr Lukashenko encouraged ice hockey fans to support their favorites at this high-profile competition.
“I am convinced that the ice hockey championship will make the sports history, its guests will have good memories of their visit to Belarus and meetings with our people, and the main thing is that they will enjoy the performance of their favorite teams,” the head of state noted.
The President wished good mood, fair play and success in ice hockey games to the participants of the competition.
