Aleksandr Lukashenko sends greetings to new Pope Francis
President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has sent greetings to Pope Francis.
“You have devoted your whole life to God and people, spreading the Gospel and nurturing respect for high spiritual ideals in people’s hearts. Now God has summoned you as an experienced pastor and theologist to navigate the Ship of Saint Peter through the raging sea of the modernity,” the message of greetings reads.
“The Pontiff’s mission is also the mission of a relentless pilgrim who brings the light of hope, faith and love to the world. I am convinced that on this responsible post you will continue relentlessly preaching the firm Christian principles which constitute the foundation of the human civilization,” the Belarusian head of state said. “I hope that friendly relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Holy See will be strengthened during your pontificate. We will be happy to welcome you on the hospitable Belarusian land where the relations between the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic believers rest upon the spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation,” the message reads.
Aleksandr Lukashenko wished Pope Francis health, wisdom and God’s help in the difficult apostolic service.
