Cooperation between Belarus and the United Nations Development Programme is efficient and targeted, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme Helen Clark on 30 May.

“If I am not mistaken, we have the most efficient and targeted cooperation,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. He thanked Helen Clark personally for her great contribution to the promotion of cooperation. “This kind of cooperation would hardly be possible without your strong will and determination,” the head of state said.

“I would like to assure you that we will be very serious, like we have always been, about our cooperation fields. We will maintain all kinds of contacts with your organization and will do our best to help promote its agenda,” the Belarusian leader said.

Helen Clark thanked the Belarusian head of state for an opportunity to visit the Chernobyl-affected regions of Belarus and to hold the first visiting session of the UN Inter-Agency Task Force on Chernobyl in Minsk. The Administrator of the UNDP said that she came to Belarus to assess the results of the UNDP work in Belarus and she was absolutely happy about the results. “I would like to say that I appreciate what Belarus does within the framework of the UN. Being one of the UN founding member states, Belarus makes a significant contribution to its activities,” Helen Clark said.
