Aleksandr Lukashenko meets with Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Nikolai Patrushev
President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has praised the high level of cooperation in security matters between Belarus and Russia. The Belarusian head of state made this statement as he met with Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Nikolai Patrushev on 6 May.
“Belarus and Russia have another opportunity to discuss security and defense cooperation on a very high level. We do not conceal it. We will discuss these matters and do our utmost to defend our Homeland and our common defense space. We have made substantial progress here. Neither Belarus nor Russia has such close defense ties with any other state. This is the closest and exemplary cooperation,” the President said.
The head of state noted that these matters had been recently discussed during a visit of Defense Minister of Russia Sergei Shoigu to Belarus. “I think your visit will cement the arrangements that were reached earlier and have been developed up till now,” the President said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko underlined that Belarus and Russia need to prepare and hold the forthcoming exercise on a very high level and to outline cooperation prospects in the field of defense.
Nikolai Patrushev agreed with the views voiced by the Belarusian head of state. According to him, international and regional security, as well as security of the Union State, plays an exceptionally important role. “We need to maintain a sharp focus on these matters. It is very important that such meetings are held on a highest level and on a regular basis,” the Security Council Secretary said.
In the run-up to the Victory Day Nikolai Patrushev pointed to the extraordinary contribution of the peoples of Belarus and Russia to the victory. “Some try to downplay the role of the USSR in this victory and liberation of Europe and the world from the looming serfdom,” he said.
Nikolai Patrushev emphasized that he loves Belarus and enjoys coming here. He noted that this time he stayed at the recently opened President Hotel and said that the hotel is very comfortable.
