Aleksandr Lukashenko arrives in Kazakhstan on working visit

    Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has arrived in Kazakhstan on a working visit. A session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council at the level of heads of state will take place in Astana on 29 May.

    The leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia are expected to meet for a private conference. Later on the presidents of Armenia and Kyrgyzstan as well as members of the delegations will join the three presidents.

    The signing of the treaty on establishing the Eurasian Economic Union is expected to be the focus of attention.

    Apart from that, the heads of state are supposed to discuss matters concerning foreign economic activities of the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space as well as access to railroad services.

    Prior to the visit Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko held a government conference. During the conference the President was informed about results of negotiations of the Belarusian side with Russian and Kazakh counterparts on signing the Eurasian Economic Union treaty.

    The President remarked that the stance of the Belarusian side had been understandable and clear from the start. Belarus was in favor of a treaty without exemptions and restrictions and has never demanded from its partners and neighbors more than it gave.
