Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus
General information
The Investigative Committee is a joint and centralized system of state law enforcement agencies in charge of preliminary investigations and pretrial criminal proceedings.
Main tasks
- to comprehensively, objectively, fully, and promptly investigate crimes within the scope specified by the criminal procedure legislation;
- to protect rights and legal interests of citizens, organizations, state and public interests, to ensure the observance of laws in the course of verifying reports and statements about crimes, in the course of launching criminal proceedings and performing preliminary inquiries;
- to improve investigation work, embrace scientific and technological achievements, positive practices, cutting-edge forms and methods of organization of preliminary investigation;
- to detect violations of the law, causes and conditions conducive to crimes, to take measures to remove them;
- to participate within limits of its jurisdiction in the implementation of the state criminal policy, to work out proposals on improving the legal regulation of law enforcement efforts;
- to organize within limits of its authority international cooperation in the sphere of pretrial criminal proceedings.
