Meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko held a bilateral meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in St. Petersburg on 26 December.
Aleksandr Lukashenko and Ilham Aliyev had a telephone conversation on 24 December. Then the Belarusian head of state warmly congratulated his Azerbaijani counterpart on his birthday. The Presidents discussed the development of bilateral relations, the situation in the region and the joint work within the framework of multilateral organizations.
The meeting in St Petersburg was a follow-up to what was discussed in the telephone conversation. The agenda included the current issues of bilateral relations.
Ilham Aliyev invited the Belarusian leader to visit Azerbajan.
The heads of state discussed the Belarus President’s upcoming visit to Azerbaijan.
As far as economy is concerned, the Presidents agreed that representatives of the intergovernmental commission and the governments of the two countries will work out a plan of joint work for the next few years. Including joint manufacturing cooperation projects in manufacturing sector, agriculture, civil engineering, and defense industry.
The Azerbaijan President confirmed the invitation for Belarus to participate in the modernization and construction of infrastructure facilities in Karabakh.
Naturally, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Ilham Aliyev also discussed the international agenda. The Azerbaijani leader informed the Belarusian counterpart in detail about the situation in the Caucasus.
