The Berezina 2002 integrated operational and tactical exercise with the North-Western Operational Command confirmed the high combat readiness of the Belarusian military. It was a significant step towards strengthening the country's defense capabilities. The objectives of the exercise were achieved, the tasks were successfully accomplished, Belarus President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Aleksandr Lukashenko announced on 1 June 2002 after reviewing the results of the exercise.
The head of state took part in the final, third stage of the exercise at the Borisovsky combined arms range. According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, Belarus once again proved that it had a combat-ready, well-trained and highly professional army, ready to maintain the military security and defend the state. "Our country does not threaten anyone, and we do not view any state in the world as our potential enemy, but in today’s conditions, only a mobile, combat-ready, highly professional army can ensure the independence and sovereignty of the country," he said.
After the review of the troops, the president met with representatives of the media, military attaches and observers who attended the exercise.
