Visit to the Republic of Korea

On 21-23 April 1997 Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko paid a visit to the Republic of Korea. Aleksandr Lukashenko held talks with his Korean counterpart Kim Young-sam in Seoul. The meeting resulted in signing a joint statement and marked the beginning of a new stage of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. An agreement was reached to open an embassy of Belarus in the Republic of Korea.

The Belarusian head of state also held a number of meetings with Korean business people to discuss joint economic projects,  trade relations and ways to attract foreign investment. The president visited Samsung Electronics, Daewoo, and Hyundai.
