Telephone conversation between Aleksandr Lukashenko and Viktor Yanukovych
On 15 April a telephone conversation was held between President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko and President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych.
The heads of state praised successful development of the trade and economic relations between the two countries. In 2012 the Belarusian-Ukrainian trade reached a record level of $7.9 billion. It went up 27% over 2011. Belarus posted a $3.3 billion trade surplus. The countries implement large-scale bilateral projects in the fuel and energy complex, industrial cooperation, in particular, in the joint assembly of MTZ, Gomselmash, MAZ equipment.
The Presidents also discussed a number of problems in the bilateral agenda. They have reached a principled agreement on holding a top-level meeting to discuss these issues in May.
Apart from that, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Viktor Yanukovych discussed an initiative to launch the social movement Belarus-Ukraine-Russia. The issue will be also discussed at the meeting of the Presidents.
