CIS Summit in Minsk, a ceremony to dig up a symbolic border post on Belarusian-Russian border

On 26 May 1995, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko took part in the session of the CIS Heads of State Council in Minsk. According to the head of state, the summit was a success as the heads of state held bilateral talks, too. The presidents of Russia and Belarus signed a joint statement to complete the first stage of the Customs Union development.

The border post on the Belarusian-Russian border at the Redki checkpoint was removed in an official ceremony. Attending the ceremony were Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Russian Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin. They planted a birch at the border of the two countries to commemorate the event.
