On 9 May 2003 Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko took part in the festive procession to mark Victory Day. Walking in the column with the head of state were war and labor veterans, peacekeeping soldiers, the country’s top officials, representatives of the city authorities and diplomatic corps accredited in Belarus. The procession went from October Square to the Victory Monument. At the Eternal Flame Aleksandr Lukashenko and all those present observed a minute’s silence in tribute to the defenders of the Fatherland who died in the fight against fascism.

In his speech, Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that Victory Day is infinitely dear to Belarusian people. The immortal feat of our compatriots is inscribed in golden letters in the history of mankind, because the foundation of the Great Victory was laid here on the Belarusian soil, said the head of state.
