Choosing the National Anthem

On 8 May 2002, President Aleksandr Lukashenko got familiar with the results of the contest to compose lyrics and music of the National Anthem of the Republic of Belarus.

The president listened to five musical pieces selected by the commission. They were performed in an instrumental version arranged for a brass band and also vocally accompanied by a brass band in the Palace of the Republic.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the requirements to the music and lyrics of the National Anthem are very stringent. The anthem should be simple and easy to listen and understand. This piece should also have a social and political message.
