Official visit to Syria

On 9-11 March 1998, Aleksandr Lukashenko paid an official visit to Syria. At Damascus International Airport the Belarusian leader was personally greeted by Syrian President Hafez Assad. One-on-one negotiations of the two leaders took place in the Syrian Presidential Palace simultaneously with the talks between senior MPs and government officials of Belarus and Syria.

On 10 March Aleksandr Lukashenko met with the prime minister of Syria, after that he held expanded talks with Hafez Assad. At the end of the visit, a joint statement and a package of intergovernmental agreements were signed.
