Official visit to Syria

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko paid an official visit to the Syrian Arab Republic on 9-10 December 2003. The talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus focused on economic cooperation. The sides reached comprehensive agreements, first of all, in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and opening of joint ventures.

Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Syrian Prime Minister Muhammad Naji al-Otari. The visit of the Belarusian head of state to Damascus - the second visit in the history of interstate relations – took place ten years after the two states  established diplomatic relations.
