Official visit to India

On 25-28 September 1997 Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko paid an official visit to India. At first the head of state visited the industrial center in the city of Kolkata. Aleksandr Lukashenko met with senior officials of the state of West Bengal to discuss cooperation prospects in various fields and visited Mother Teresa’s tomb.

While in Mumbai, Aleksandr Lukashenko met with representatives of banks and businesses, senior officials of the state of Maharashtra. He also got familiar with operation of some Indian industrial companies.

The Belarusian head of state arrived in the Indian capital of Delhi on 27 September. Aleksandr Lukashenko held talks with President Kocheril Raman Narayanan, Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral, and other senior officials of India. The parties signed a package of bilateral documents. The Belarusian president also laid a wreath at the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi.
