Official visit to the State of Qatar

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made an official visit to the State of Qatar on 17-19 February 2001.

The Belarus president was greeted Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the Emir of Qatar, in the airport. The leaders of the two countries held a meeting on the same day in Doha. Following the talks, the parties signed intergovernmental agreements which created a legal framework for cooperation with Qatar, with which Belarus had no political or economic relations before.

On the second day of the visit, the Belarus president met with Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa al-Thani and with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The head of state visited the Ras Laffan Industrial City located on the site of one of the world's largest natural gas deposits.
