Meeting with China’s Vice Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan

The Belarusian-Chinese top-level agreements will be implemented on time, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said on 5 November as he met with Zhong Shan, China’s Vice Minister of Commerce and International Trade Representative.
Welcoming the Chinese delegation, Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed: “I would like to thank the Chinese president for the kind words he addressed to me after I had been elected president, and for the colossal support that China provides to Belarus.”
The head of state remarked that at the meeting with Zhong Shan he would like to discuss the entire spectrum of Belarus-China cooperation. “As for the major avenues of bilateral cooperation, including the implementation of the project to build the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone which was called the pearl of the new Silk Road by the Chinese president, I think that the tasks which were set during the visit of Xi Jinping to Minsk will be fulfilled on time. If we step up efforts we will even move ahead of schedule,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
Zhong Shan who will represent China at the Belarus president’s inauguration ceremony conveyed the best wishes from China President Xi Jinping to the Belarusian head of state and congratulated him on winning the presidential election. He stressed that Aleksandr Lukashenko has made a big contribution to the development of the Belarusian economy. The Chinese representative noted that Aleksandr Lukashenko is respected and supported by the Belarusian people.
In his opinion, the exchange of top-level visits helps enhance contacts between China and Belarus. According to Zhong Shan, it has given a strong impetus to the development of Belarus-China all-round strategic partnership.
“My participation in the Belarus president’s inauguration ceremony as a special representative of the China president once again testifies to the great attention that Xi Jinping pays to the Chinese-Belarusian cooperation and strong friendship with you,” Zhong Shan said. He believes that good personal relations between the leaders are very important for the development of contacts between the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of China.
At the meeting the parties discussed the ways to bolster the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. Great attention was paid to the implementation of the One Belt, One Road concept and Belarus’ participation in it. This concept unites the projects to create the economic zone of the Silk Road and Maritime Silk Road of the 21st century.
The meeting highlighted the issues related to the construction of the Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park. It was noted that the park should become the centerpiece of the Belarusian-Chinese interregional ties. A roadmap of interregional cooperation has already been approved. Belarus and China attach great importance to the document. The parties discussed the ways to streamline trade and economic relations and remove barriers with a view to accelerating the development of the Belarusian-Chinese cooperation.
The parties also talked over the implementation of big joint projects and the cooperation in the financial and credit sector. The parties were unanimous in supporting all-round expansion of the Belarusian-Chinese cooperation.
