Ceremony to break ground for the National Library

On 1 November 2002 Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko took part in the ceremony to launch the construction of the National Library of the Republic of Belarus.

The president described the construction of the new spiritual treasury of Belarusians as a truly nationwide project and a new step on the way towards the consolidation of the nation, as the idea to build the new library received great support in the Belarusian society. The Belarusian leader put forward serious requirements regarding the quality of construction works and the equipment of the largest book storage facility in the country. He expressed hope that it will create conditions for the development of the library in the coming decades.
