Aleksandr Lukashenko meets with Second Secretary of Belarus’ Communist Party Igor Karpenko

President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has met with Igor Karpenko, Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus.

The meeting focused on the performance of the Belarusian patriotically-minded political parties, particularly, the Communist Party of Belarus.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said he regrets the fact that the party had split once. “But every cloud has a silver lining. The party that split off has become marginal already. The party used to be patriotic as a whole while the split-off part is actually the avant-garde of the entire ‘fifth column’. It may be for the best. Let them be. They had been trying to do it for a long time and they did it at last,” the President remarked.

“The Communist Party of Belarus still remains a patriotic party, a party of patriotic orientation,” he added.

The President believes that the state should support patriotically-minded political parties.

“Let’s talk sincerely, they should be supported. We will not pay salaries to them, for instance, at the expense of the budget, but we should provide them with support. Because all these ‘fifth-columnists’ get considerable investments from abroad, at least, they earn their living. While the parties that support us, support the country, and act in the interests of the nation sometimes lack even an office, a building, a room to receive people,” the head of state said.

“In the end we can ask them to inform us about the situation at the local level. These parties are not alien to our nation. Therefore, I am not afraid of speaking it in public because they should not be poor, the patriotic parties should not. We should help them in the matters where the nation needs their aid,” the President stressed.

Among other matters the latest elections to the Belarus parliament were discussed as well as the participation of patriotic parties in them.

As far as the Communist Party of Belarus is concerned, Igor Karpenko said that the party had new tasks to accomplish to enhance the party structure and recruit more members. Besides, there are some matters to take care of following the newly adopted revision of the program of the Communist Party of Belarus.
