Aleksandr Lukashenko institutes medal to mark 25th anniversary of withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan

    In the run-up to the 25th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan the anniversary medal will be instituted in Belarus to honor the contribution of soldiers of the war in Afghanistan to the patriotic education of the Belarusians. The corresponding decree was signed the Belarusian President.

    The decree approved the provision on the anniversary medal, its description and an example of a relevant certificate.

    The anniversary medal will be bestowed upon citizens of Belarus, including those awarded posthumously, who fulfilled their military duty in Afghanistan from December 1979 to February 1989, people serving in the Armed Forces, other military and paramilitary organizations, civil servants and other people who have made a big contribution to the heroic and patriotic education of the Belarusians, commemoration of the war victims, development of the veterans movement, organization of social and medical rehabilitation of Afghanistan war veterans, disabled soldiers and family members of the victims.
