Exhibition Projects in the Palace of Independence
The interiors of the Palace have repeatedly been decorated with artworks of famous Belarusian artists, designers, photographers, sculptors, and talented beginner artists.
The first exhibition project in the Palace of Independence was an exhibition of paintings by the Belarusian artist, Honored Figure of Arts Valery Shkarubo in spring 2017. It was this exhibition that had established a new tradition of demonstration of national arts and crafts in the Palace of Independence.
In summer 2018 the country's talented creative young people got an opportunity to present their works here. Those were students of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts, and Glebov Minsk State Art College.
On 5 October 2018 the exhibition of photos by Aleksandr Alekseyev and Oleg Lukashevich called "The heritage of Belarus. Restored architectural values" opened in the Ceremonial Hall of the Palace. The authors depicted the inalienable values of our country – specimens of architecture as evidence of the huge work done on their reconstruction and restoration over the past decades.
This project drew particular attention of high-ranking guests of the Palace of Independence: Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and Patriarch Kirill. Now the Ceremonial Hall houses a permanent exhibition of these authors. Visitors of the photo exhibition have an opportunity to discover Belarus with its unique history and culture.
Summer 2019 was marked by Belarus hosting the 2nd European Games. The exhibition called "Sports of the 21st century in sculpture" was held in the Palace of Independence as part of the cultural program of the forum. The works represented nine sports. Images of athletes in metal and stone expressively conveyed the desire for new victories, the intensity of sports competitions.
One of the largest projects shown in the halls of the Palace of Independence recently is the photo exhibition "Planet Belarus" by the famous Belarusian photographer Sergei Plytkevich. The author invites the exhibition visitors to look at Belarus from up high and shows the beauty of its nature and major sites.
The Palace of Independence is a wonderful exhibition venue not only for Belarusian artists. During the official visit of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev to Belarus in autumn 2018 works by the Azerbaijani artist Naili Gandilova were displayed here. The exhibition was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries.
Since the institution of the Day of People’s Unity in the Republic of Belarus, the Palace of Independence has hosted exhibitions times to this public holiday. The first one called "The belt of unity" took place in 2021. The exhibition featured different arts and crafts, including pottery, willow weaving, embroidered clothes, icon painting, etc.
In 2022, on the Day of People’s Unity, the Grand Ceremonial Hall was decorated with about 50 works of Belarusian artists Nikolai Isaenok, Anna Kononova and Anna Sadovskaya. The exhibition was called "To Belarus with love and care".
In 2023, exhibitions "In the light of heroic feat" (25 paintings featuring the memories of artists who saw the Great Patriotic War and its aftermath with their own eyes) and "The architectural mosaic of Belarus" (paintings of more than 40 Belarusian artists of different generations featuring Belarusian cities and towns, district capitals and rural settlements, architectural landmarks) were times to Victory Day and Independence Day.
