Working visit to Tajikistan. Meetings with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon, Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko arrived in Tajikistan on a working visit. The aircraft with the head of state on board landed at Dushanbe International Airport on 15 September.

At the airport Aleksandr Lukashenko was welcomed by Tajikistan Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the authorities of the city of Dushanbe.

Shortly after Aleksandr Lukashenko’s arrival in Dushanbe there was a meeting with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon. The two leaders discussed the development of bilateral cooperation, the military and political situation in the region, and the upcoming CSTO and SCO summits in Dushanbe.

The heads of state discussed in detail the bilateral agenda and welcomed positive trends in bilateral cooperation. According to them, it is necessary to maintain momentum and move on in the spirit of the strategic partnership agreement signed earlier.

The agenda of the meeting was dominated by international issues, including the situation in Afghanistan, and the CSTO consolidated position on this issue.

The heads of state compared notes and exchanged views in the run-up to the upcoming summits in Dushanbe.

The one by one meeting was then expanded to include the foreign ministers.

Emomali Rahmon gave a short tour of the Palace of Nations that will host the upcoming summits.

The meeting of the two heads of state in Dushanbe lasted over two hours.

At the airport Aleksandr Lukashenko also met with Tajikistan Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda.

The capital of Tajikistan is set to host a session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and a meeting of the Heads of State Council of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on 15-17 September.

The Belarusian head of state is expected to hold a number of bilateral meetings with his foreign counterparts.

The agenda of the CSTO summit will highlight issues of international and regional security and their impact on the security of the CSTO member states. One of the most important issues will be the situation in Afghanistan.
