Addressing the leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that the sacred date of 9 May is forever inscribed in the destinies of the Soviet peoples and decades later the greatness of the feat of the heroes of the Fatherland does not fade.
“The memory of those who gave us freedom at the cost of incredible effort and their own lives is a moral compass and a warning against repeating the tragedies of the past,” the head of state noted.
The Belarus President expressed confidence that the friendship of nations, which withstood the harsh trials of the war time, remains an unshakable basis for strengthening good-neighborly relations and expanding comprehensive cooperation today.
In the message to Russian President Vladimir Putin the Belarusian head of state noted: “In the year of the 85th anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War, we are especially acutely aware of the true price of the Victory and the greatness of the feat of soldiers and home front workers. Their unyielding tenacity and selflessness forever determined the fate of our brotherly nations and all of humanity, and gave future generations the right to freedom and creative labor. The memory of those harsh years is an integral part of the spiritual and historical heritage of Belarus and Russia, and serves as a solid foundation for mutual trust and genuine alliance. That is why I believe that the Union State [of Belarus and Russia] is destined to be at the forefront of processes aimed at overcoming the current global security crisis on the planet.”
Congratulating the people of Ukraine on the Great Victory Day, the head of state noted: “Belarusians and Ukrainians stood side by side in terrible trials, together experienced the pain of losses and the joy of the long-awaited spring of 1945. Today it is very important to pass on to descendants the truth about the joint struggle against Nazism, which became a manifestation of limitless strength and unity. In Belarus people remember the Ukrainian heroes who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the liberation of the Belarusian land. Any attempts to rewrite history and sow distrust between our nations are doomed to failure.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko wished Ukrainian veterans of the Great Patriotic War health and longevity, and the residents of Ukraine — peace and harmony as soon as possible.
In the greetings to the President and people of Georgia, Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that Belarus holds sacred the memory of the natives of Georgia who fought against Nazism shoulder to shoulder with the sons of blue-eyed Belarus and made a significant contribution to the liberation of the Belarusian soil. “I am confident that the testaments and values of our fathers and grandfathers, who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the freedom of subsequent generations, will continue to be a reliable basis for Belarusian-Georgian friendship,” the head of state noted.
In the congratulatory message to the people of Moldova, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the Victory Day holiday embodies the shared memory and boundless gratitude to the generation of victors who at the cost of countless sacrifices endured the bloodiest war in the history of mankind and won us the right to life and independence. “This year we celebrate the 82nd anniversary of the liberation of Belarus and Moldova from the Nazi invaders. I am convinced that the traditions of brotherly friendship and mutual assistance, tempered in those harsh times, will not allow the immortal feat of the heroes to be forgotten and will not allow the falsification of the events of the Great Patriotic War,” the Belarus President emphasized.
Aleksandr Lukashenko addressed a congratulatory message to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and the people of this country, noting the great selfless feat of the Red Army soldiers and Slovak insurgents who fought for the liberation of Europe from fascism. “Respect for these events is an example of civic courage and unshakable commitment to the historical truth. The memory, which is forever preserved by grateful descendants in the monuments of Slavin and Banska Bystrica, the Brest Fortress and Khatyn, unites our nations in the eternal desire for peace and mutual understanding,” the message reads. “The common Great Victory is a valuable asset that reminds today’s generation of the price of freedom and human dignity, and that true security can only exist when it takes into account the interests of every country.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko also congratulated on Victory Day representatives of the supreme leadership of the Russian Federation and the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, and heads of international and regional organizations.
