World Bank
The cooperation of the Republic of Belarus with the World Bank began in 1992 when the country gained independence and became a full-fledged member of the bank.
The Republic of Belarus owns about 0.2% of the total voting power and about 0.18% of the total number of shares of the World Bank (The number of votes and the number of shares may vary slightly due to the Bank’s capital stock changes (usually an increase).
Belarus and the World Bank cooperate in two key areas, namely: investment cooperation involving credit resources of the World Bank to finance big infrastructure projects, and technical assistance (advisory assistance), namely expert support of individual initiatives to improve various areas of the national economy.
About 40 projects have been implemented within the framework of investment cooperation since 1992. The World Bank has invested about $2 billion in the economy of the Republic of Belarus, and this figure continues to grow.
Joint implementation of projects supported by the World Bank has produced significant results in transport infrastructure, water supply, ecology, forestry, energy efficiency, private sector development, public finance management, education and healthcare.
The World Bank conducts a number of analytical studies, including on demography, cybersecurity, etc.
The World Bank provides advisory assistance to Belarus to develop the government expertise in improving the investment climate, the governance of the organizations with state participation and the sustainability of the financial sector, and also in developing market competition, strengthening social protection and other areas.
