Visit to Chernobyl-affected area

On 26 April  2001, the day when Belarus marks the anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear accident, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko visited the area affected by the Chernobyl disaster.

The head of state talked to people working in the radiological observation station and the research center of the Polesie State Radioecological Reserve in Khoiniki District. Aleksandr Lukashenko and his delegation members planted apple trees and laid out a new alley in the reserve.

The president also visited Bragin District and Narovlya District where he met with local residents. The head of state asked about their working and living conditions and problems they were facing. In the evening Aleksandr Lukashenko attended a meeting in Bragin timed to the 15th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.
