The prospects to develop the production of up-to-date railway rolling stock in Belarus have been discussed at the meeting of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko with chairman of the board and owner of the group of companies Stadler Peter Spuhler on 29 May.

“I am pleased to meet with you. I recall our first meeting. Back then I offered you to think about working in Belarus. You have mulled over the idea and made a decision. We have been cooperating with you and your company since then,” the head of state said. “Some time later you arrived in Belarus and suggested setting up a wonderful innovative and promising enterprise. We have opened it. It is working well, we have plans to increase the work load. I know you are ready to initiate new construction, a new enterprise or enlargement. It is very interesting for me, and I would like to listen to your proposals regarding the development of your presence in our country.”

Peter Spuhler, in turn, remarked that there have been positive changes after the meeting with the Belarusian President in August 2016. “We have received several good orders for double-deck trains, including for Aeroexpress in Moscow. We are very proud that the trains made in Belarus are used for such important purposes in Moscow. We have also sold trains to Azerbaijan and Georgia. All these products were made in Fanipol. Now we are planning to deliver trains to St. Petersburg. I have had negotiations with Aeroexpress, and it seems that they will use our trains in St. Petersburg,” he said.
