On 25 June, one week before a major national holiday, Independence Day, President Alexander Lukashenko presented state awards and prizes to 64 Belarusians in recognition of their excellence in science and technology, literature, arts, architecture, and agriculture.
The President said that the prize-winners and awardees ‘are the people who work to ensure the state is making swift progress in all areas’. Belarus was the last country of the international community to face the crisis, which originated in the West, but it should be the first country to get over it, and Belarus has everything necessary for it. ‘Cohesion and unity of our people, their diligence and energy, scientific research and implementation of cutting-edge technologies, food, economic and national security – this is but a short list of the factors underpinning our optimism,’ the Head of State said.
The confidence comes from real-life examples of highly effective work performed by companies which, in spite of today’s difficult situation, report impressive results: increase production, explore new markets for their goods, use energy-efficient technologies, upgrade production facilities, attract investment, and thus strengthen the position of Belarus in the international arena.
‘We can really do everything ourselves. Even in this time of crisis, when representatives of the European Union come to Belarus (whatever public statements they make) they say that good people live here, that we have created a beautiful and worthy republic,’ Alexander Lukashenko said. |
