Strategic development of the agricultural industry will be discussed in April, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the session held on 27 March to discuss the situation in agriculture, its problems and development prospects.

The head of state wanted to listen to the report on the real situation in agriculture. He reminded that several decrees to improve the situation in the industry were passed last year.

“We have agreed with the officials in charge of the agricultural industry that if the President signs 3-5 decrees the situation in agribusiness will improve. Now it is time to see whether the efforts are a success. I would like to be informed about the progress and about what is to be done to make a difference,” the President said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said that decisions were made to resolve all issues. Colossal funds were invested to ensure normal operation of agribusiness. With this in mind, the government expects that all branches of agribusiness will be increasingly vibrant.

“We have agreed to discuss strategic aspects of agricultural development in Q1 in April in Vitebsk Oblast, Mogilev Oblast or Brest Oblast where new governors were appointed. I hope that they will openly tell about the existing problems as they are not to blame for the shortcomings,” the head of state stressed.

The session focused on overdue payments. Apart from that, participants of the session discussed the economic performance of agricultural companies, observation of the technological and performance standards, the progress in the spring sowing campaign. The President gave a number of instructions concerning these areas.
