Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed the government and the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB) to maintain momentum in the economy which took shape in H1 2015 as he heard out the report of Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov and Chairman of the Board of the National Bank Pavel Kallaur on 31 March.

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that there was some certain balance in the economic situation and the financial sector in H1 2015. The President suggested discussing topical issues which can emerge in the future.

“The first quarter of the year is over. I would like to discuss our plans and what we need to do. As I already said when appointing new government members we need to improve the situation or at least to preserve the status quo. I do not demand a GDP increase or something like that. We should do our best to avoid decline. We need to hit the targets that we have planned,” the head of state noted.

The head of state was informed about the economic performance in Q1 2015, the monetary policy and the state of affairs in the foreign currency market.

He gave an instruction to preserve macroeconomic stability and ensure balanced development of the Belarusian economy.
