Report of Chairman of the State Defense Industries Committee of Belarus Sergei Gurulev

The Belarusian multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) has successfully passed another test. Chairman of the State Defense Industries Committee of Belarus Sergei Gurulev informed Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko about it on 16 June.

The regular test took place in the People’s Republic of China and Aleksandr Lukashenko thanked the Chinese side for it. “Our ally, Russia, is not so active in supporting our aspirations. We are going to discuss it with the president of Russia. But I thank the People’s Republic of China and the country’s leadership for this support,” said the Belarusian head of state.

The President was informed that the goals Belarusian specialists had set out to reach had been fulfilled. The army will get decent weapons that will greatly enhance the combat and defense potential of the country.

Sergei Gurulev also delivered a report about the fulfillment of the President’s instructions regarding the equipment of the Belarusian army with modern weapons. The Belarusian army is being modernized. According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, it is necessary to prepare the relevant weaponry as part of the effort. The weapons “should correspond to the modernization we are carrying out not only in the army but also in other power-wielding agencies,” said the Belarus President.

The head of state stated that the international situation is not getting any calmer. NATO’s activities at the Belarusian and Russian borders are alarming. “They constantly publicly demonstrate their activity, primarily at our borders,” noted Aleksandr Lukashenko. “We cannot but be concerned about this activity. But that’s probably not it. We also understand the propaganda aspect of these actions. Keeping our powder dry is the idea. We have always talked about it.”

The President was also informed about other matters concerning the development of Belarusian defense industries, in particular, about the work of enterprises accountable to the State Defense Industries Committee. On the whole, the enterprises manage to accomplish the tasks they have been given, including such an important goal as export growth.
