Phone conversation with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic had a phone conversation upon the initiative of the Serbian side on 1 September.

The Serbian President congratulated his Belarusian counterpart on the excellent organization and conduct of the meeting of the presidents of the Customs Union, Ukraine and high representatives of the European Union in Minsk on 26 August. The Belarusian President noted that the meeting was a success first of all because the parties gathered together at the negotiating table and started discussing pressing issues.

Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed to the EU’s role in preventing the escalation of the Ukraine conflict. The Belarusian head of state informed the Serbian President that Minsk is hosting another round of talks of the Ukraine-Russia-OSCE contact group on 1 September.

The heads of state discussed the cooperation between Belarus and Serbia. Tomislav Nikolic urged to ramp up the bilateral cooperation as Serbia will take over the OSCE presidency in 2015. He invited Aleksandr Lukashenko to pay a visit to Serbia next year.
