Belarus is doing its best to create the conditions so that the children can live in peace and can be proud of their country, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the New Year party for students who have excelled in education, creative work and sport on 26 December.

“I am sincerely happy to meet with the best aspiring young people in this festive atmosphere,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “It is very important for us to see future stars, future scientists here today. For this purpose we have founded the talented youth support funds.”

The head of state remarked that the best young people have been invited to the Palace of Independence, and it will become a new tradition. “Every country relies on traditions. Maybe, this is a small tradition, but we will keep it, and those who will become presidents after me will also keep it. And those young people who will come here after you will be also happy to attend such New Year parties in the major palace in Belarus,” the President said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed confidence that some of the people attending this meeting will be in the center of political life in the future. Perhaps, some people are already dreaming of becoming politicians. “But remember that you will have to work and study hard. I do not mean that you must get only excellent marks and so on. I will say one thing: you need to do everything on time,” the President said. “Now you have to get education. Tomorrow you will have to deal with other issues, and it will be too late to study. You will be a success if you do everything on time.”

The head of state said that young people question almost everything. He added that he also adheres to the same principle. “I have not devised it. This is the idea of Karl Marx. He used to say that you must question everything. Do not accept all ideas, innovations and proposals without asking questions. It does not mean that you reject the idea. This is how you get to the crux of the matter. Then you will decide whether to accept or reject such processes,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

According to the President, today’s youngsters were born and grew up in the sovereign, modern, independent Belarus and did not face a truly difficult period in the history of our country. “You do not know much about the life back then because you did not live in that country. It is good that you are the citizens of truly sovereign independent country, and you will take an active part in its development,” the Belarusian leader said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko encouraged young people to stay committed to the current course. “Let’s be honest: the current generation has created this country, this state, and you will have to improve it, adjust it to your needs. But do not break the system,” he added.

The head of state said that the main goal for today’s young people is to get good education. “We are speaking about the IT country, digital economy, mining, bitcoins, blockchain. If you want to prosper in this life you will need excellent education,” the President said.

He added that a number of decisions to improve business legislation has been made this year. “We have made many decisions, and they will be implemented by such young people as you,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “Without such decisions and ideas we will be lagging behind. Therefore, it is very important to adapt to this complicated life. It does not mean that we should be opportunists. We should adapt to these processes, get the best of them and move forward.”

The head of state expressed confidence that young people love and cherish their country. “Only here you can prosper because your roots are here. Do not be in a hurry, take time to understand who you are. If someone goes to study abroad, remember that you will need to come back and do your best to turn this country into a more beautiful place,” the President told young people. “Cherish your country and remember that your children and grandchildren will also live here.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko wished a Happy New Year to the students. He said he hopes that they will use their talents and skills in the best way possible.

The New Year meeting with the head of state was attended by 250 young people, including 190 university students and 60 students of vocational schools and other institutions.
