Belarus is interested in enhancing trade and economic ties with Afghanistan, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Mohammad Shaker Kargar, the Afghanistan president’s special envoy on the CIS states, on 22 June.

Aleksandr Lukashenko reminded that he had a telephone conversation with the Afghanistan president not long ago. “He put forward a number of proposals, I also suggested developing certain avenues of cooperation. I know that Afghanistan needs economic, military and political support due to the processes that are happening there,” the Belarusian leader noted.

The Belarusian side expects that the meeting with the Afghanistan president’s special envoy will be a starting point for cooperation in a number of fields. “Today we will discuss several avenues of cooperation and topical issues and will make a corresponding decision,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said addressing the official. According to the head of state, Belarus expects that it will be a prologue to a number of “concrete moves toward each other in trade and economic cooperation.”

The President emphasized that Belarus and all regions to the east of it appreciate the efforts of Afghanistan to combat global terrorism.
