Belarus President receives credentials of foreign ambassadors

Belarus is in favor of equal cooperation without pressure and coercion between countries, President of the republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he received credentials of the ambassadors of Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Egypt, the Congo Republic, Mozambique, Pakistan, Portugal, Syria, Ecuador, and Estonia on 12 December.
The head of state stressed that the year 2014 had been one of the most difficult years in the world politics over the past years. “Some states are eager not only to influence regional processes but also to change the global balance of powers,” the President said. In his words, the result is obvious: tensions are escalating in the world, trust in partners is decreasing, and sanctions are imposed.
“Belarus is in favor of equal cooperation without pressure and coercion between countries. We advocate the abolition of all kinds of sanctions as they have a direct influence on the living standards of people,” Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked.
According to the President, the complexity of the present-day situation, weakening of the role of international organizations in addressing global issues raise the importance of bilateral ties, friendship and productive cooperation between states.
“Our country is going to do its best in this area,” the head of state said. He expressed hope that the activities of diplomats will help enhance mutually beneficial ties between Belarus and the countries they represent. According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, today’s ceremony has brought together diplomats from various corners of the world.
“Now we are opening a new page in relations with friendly Ecuador. It is the first time in the history of the bilateral relations that the ambassador of this country has presented the credentials,” the President emphasized.
Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed confidence that the activities of the ambassador would help considerably boost the interstate cooperation in implementing joint projects outlined during the visit of the President of Ecuador to Minsk in 2013.
Addressing the ambassador of Syria to Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko said, “Belarus is closely following the developments in Syria. In the international arena, we will continue to advocate the return of peace and accord on the Syrian land."
The Belarusian President also noted, "We hope for the speediest settlement of the crisis in the country that has been traditionally friendly to Belarus and for the restoration of the previous level of bilateral cooperation."
Accepting credentials of ambassadors of Bulgaria, Estonia, and Portugal to Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that Belarus and European countries are connected by a common spirit, history, and culture. The connections represent a reliable foundation for developing relations between the countries in the spirit of mutual respect.
“We expect that the present representatives of European countries will practice a constructive approach towards evaluating the situation in Belarus. It would contribute to further normalization of relations between our country and the European Union,” the head of state said.
The President stressed that Belarus is ready to step up the volume of cooperation with Bulgaria in the production sector, agriculture, science and technology, investments, was ready to bolster regional and humanitarian ties.
Addressing the ambassador of Estonia to Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked that Belarus considers Estonia as an important partner in the Baltic Sea region. According to the Belarusian leader, it is necessary to realize the existing opportunities in traditional spheres of bilateral cooperation as much as possible, including in transport and transit.
“While Belarus and Estonia may not have a common border unlike the other two Baltic states, it does not mean we have no common interests. We know each other well. I think that we will be able to honestly look at each other and find areas of common interest. I would very much like to count on it,” the head of state said.
“We are more than neighbors. We used to live in the same country. It may be described as a bad country or a good one, tastes differ. But we used to live as one family. And I do not think that Belarusians and Estonians had any contradictions back then,” the President noted. He added that Estonia has always been an objective country and has never complained about Belarus.
Accepting credentials from the ambassador of Portugal to Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned the potential for trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Portugal. According to the Belarusian leader, at present it is necessary to determine the areas that the two countries are most interested in and work on them closely.
Accepting credentials of the ambassador of Egypt, the Congo Republic, and Mozambique to Belarus, the President confirmed Belarus’ confirms eagerness to promote cooperation with African countries which become more and more influential in the global politics and economy nowadays.
The head of state emphasized that many African countries demonstrate impressive economic progress.
“We must do our best to restore full-fledged cooperation with the Arab Republic of Egypt. It is not only an economic and political partner of Belarus but also one of the most important areas of support in the entire African continent,” the President told the ambassador of Egypt to Belarus.
When receiving credentials of the ambassador of Congo to Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that it is a good opportunity to establish and bolster cooperation in a wide range of promising areas.
The President remarked that the interaction with Mozambique is increasingly vibrant. “The year 2014 has laid the foundation of our all-round dialogue. It is important to implement planned projects in manufacturing and agriculture in order to advance relations to a brand new level,” the Belarusian head of state told the ambassador of Mozambique to Belarus.
Belarus is ready to develop cooperation with Pakistan and Afghanistan, the President stressed while receiving the credentials of the ambassadors of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
“We do not set any pre-conditions. We are ready to cooperate with Pakistan, which is a powerful country, as it is, and with Afghanistan as it is,” the Belarusian head of state said.
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, Belarus is ready to offer a whole range of services. He is confident that the bilateral cooperation will be mutually beneficial.
The President stressed that Belarus attaches great significance to the development of bilateral relations with Pakistan that plays an important role in the Muslim world. According to the Belarusian head of state, the decision to open the Belarusian Embassy in Islamabad was a step towards closer bilateral cooperation. “We are prepared to support the proposal to set up the Pakistani diplomatic mission in our country,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
“We sincerely hope that the situation in Afghanistan will stabilize,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said addressing the ambassador of Afghanistan to Belarus. “Belarus supports social consolidation, national reconciliation and territorial integrity of Afghanistan,” he added. In his words, Belarus is open for bilateral cooperation.
Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that Belarus is ready to create the conditions conducive to efficient work of diplomatic missions. “You can see what is going on in our country, how people live here and what they aspire to. We suggest engaging in an open dialogue across all kinds of issues and finding mutually beneficial solutions,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. The head of state said that he hopes for a pro-active stance, determination and an unbiased approach of the diplomats. Their professionalism and commitment will help expand cooperation between the states and facilitate the implementation of new joint projects, Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
